Live Your Dream Awards Recognize Education and Determination at Ram’s Hill


On Monday, April 27 at 9:30 a.m., Soroptimist of Borrego Springs hosted a buffet-style breakfast at Ram’s Hill Restaurant to recognize this year’s Live Your Dream Award recipients.


With desert and mountain views surrounding the room, the gathering brought together community members to celebrate women working toward educational and career goals while supporting their families.


“The Live Your Dream Award provides $1,500 in direct support to women, with opportunities to receive up to $5,000 at the regional level and $10,000 at the federation level. Applications are open from August 15 through November 15.” — Kathy Jorgensen


Recognizing Determination and Progress


This year’s honorees include:

  • Graciela Castro, criminal justice
  • Sandra Quintero, nursing
  • Betty Gonzalez, culinary arts


During the breakfast, all three recipients shared their stories, goals, and appreciation for the support. Their remarks reflected determination, gratitude, and the importance of education as they work toward stronger futures for themselves and their families.

A Program with Purpose


The Live Your Dream Awards are the cornerstone program of Soroptimist International of the Americas. The program provides financial assistance to women who are the primary earners for their families, helping them gain skills, complete degrees, and expand employment opportunities.



A Personal Touch


As part of the recognition, recipients received flowers$1,500,  a custom Live Your Dream bracelet and a meaningful reminder of their goals and the support behind them.

The breakfast served as both a celebration and a moment of connection, bringing together recipients and community members in support of their success.


Through continued support, Soroptimist of Borrego Springs helps create opportunities that extend beyond education and into families, careers, and the broader community.

For the past two summers, the Borrego Ministers Association (BMA) has provided emergency portable air conditioners at no cost to Borrego Springs residents whose home cooling systems unexpectedly fail. Units are delivered, installed, and evaluated by licensed HVAC professionals to provide immediate relief. Right now, 6 portable air conditioners are already deployed in homes across Borrego Springs, helping keep local residents safe during extreme heat. With demand increasing rapidly, we urgently need to expand our inventory. San Diego broadcaster and local Ram Media Foundation founder returns to the convention where his Comic-Con journey began. Gabriel B. Wisdom, founder of Ram Media Foundation and creator of KRAM 90.5 FM Borrego Springs, will speak at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 24. Founded in 1970, San Diego Comic-Con has grown into one of the world’s largest pop culture conventions, drawing more than 130,000 attendees for panels, exhibits and appearances by creators, artists, filmmakers and celebrities from around the globe. Wisdom will join Radio Hall of Fame inductee (Shotgun) Tom Kelly for "A Conversation with San Diego Celebrities Gabriel Wisdom and (Shotgun) Tom Kelly," from noon to 1 p.m. at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. Beginning at KPRI-FM San Diego in the late 1960s, Wisdom went on to work at KGB-FM San Diego and KMET-FM Los Angeles during the formative years of FM rock radio in the 1970s.
