Two Horn Legends on Stage

Woodard has performed with an impressive list of artists including Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, Diana Krall, B.B. King, and John Legend, earning a reputation for musical depth, clarity, and swing.
Shaheed’s trumpet career includes collaborations with Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Natalie Cole, and Phil Collins, reflecting a rare versatility across jazz, soul, and popular music.
Featuring Vocalist Tawanda
Vocalist Tawanda Suessbrich-Joaquim, known professionally as Tawanda, brings a powerful and distinctive voice to the ensemble. She was a winner of the 2021 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and is widely regarded as one of the leading young jazz vocalists of her generation.
A proud first-generation American with a German mother and a father from Mozambique, Tawanda was raised with a wide range of global musical influences—from Cuba and the South Pacific to the Middle East and France. Her artistic influences span international performers such as Te Vaka, Sam Mangwana, Angélique Kidjo, Brenda Fassie, and Hugh Masekela, alongside classical composers Vivaldi and Bach, and American songwriters Carole King and James Taylor.
While studying at Santa Fe University of Art and Design, she developed a deep appreciation for the Great American Songbook, drawing inspiration from George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, and Oscar Hammerstein under the mentorship of vocalist Mirabai Daniels and saxophonist Horace Alexander Young. Her work honors jazz legends Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Anita O’Day, while expressing a voice firmly her own.
