OLAX Celebrates Cinco de Mother’s Day
Share

Families gathered at Christmas Circle in Borrego Springs as OLAX hosted its Cinco de Mother’s Day celebration, an evening focused on honoring mothers, culture, and community connection.
The event featured performances by Eli Hernandez, Mia Lopez, BAMA Youth, and Folklorico Youth. Guests also enjoyed free drinks, quick snacks, gifts for mothers, and an opportunity drawing.
Mothers attending the event were able to choose their own gifts. Volunteers prepared hundreds of items for moms, creating a thoughtful and welcoming experience for local families. Mothers also received corsages made by Christina Portillo.
Opportunity drawing prizes included a 55-inch television, an iPad, and a trip to Rosarito.
The event was supported by OLAX volunteers, including members and their children, who helped with setup, activities, refreshments, and gift distribution. Members of the Miss Borrego Court were also on hand to help, along with S-Interact students connected with Rotary and Soroptimist youth service programs.
Maribel Tellez featured The Photo Booth, a new business run by a local student, offering free Mother’s Day-themed photos for families to take and share during the event.
Community support was also provided by Marjorie Schuessler of the Bargain Barn, part of American Legion Post 853, who brought bags of stuffed animals and gifts for mothers attending the celebration.
OLAX is a nonprofit organization that brings cultural events, scholarships, youth programs, and community activities to Borrego Springs. Organizers expressed gratitude to the volunteers, performers, students, families, and generous community members who helped make the event possible.
