New Worship Service Connects Borrego Springs and Salton City
Share
A new partnership brings worship, fellowship, and support to Salton City.
St. Barnabas Episcopal Church is expanding its ministry beyond Borrego Springs through a growing partnership with Rostros y Corazón in Salton City. The new collaboration brings regular Eucharist services to an area where faith-based services can be limited, while strengthening ties between neighboring desert communities.
Fr. David Madsen and Jan Naragon of St. Barnabas are now leading twice-monthly Eucharist services at Rostros y Corazón, creating opportunities for worship, fellowship, encouragement, and community connection.
The partnership reflects the close relationship that already exists between Borrego Springs and the West Shores region. Many Salton City residents work in Borrego Springs, attend school here, shop here, receive services here, or have family and friends in the Borrego Valley. Although separated by county lines, the communities share many connections.
For St. Barnabas, the outreach is part of a commitment to meet people where they are and support neighbors throughout the desert region. For residents of Salton City, the services provide a local opportunity for worship and gathering.
About Rostros y Corazón
Rostros y Corazón, meaning "Faces and Heart," is a nonprofit community organization led by Graciela Mendivil Ramos. Based in Salton City, the organization serves families throughout the West Shores area by providing direct assistance and connecting residents with vital resources.
The organization helps individuals and families facing food insecurity, housing challenges, domestic violence, transportation barriers, and limited access to healthcare or education. Through partnerships with regional agencies and local volunteers, Rostros y Corazón distributes groceries, clothing, school supplies, and other essentials while helping connect residents with medical, legal, and social services.
The organization is also known for community events that bring resources and support directly to local families, including its annual Día de los Tres Reyes celebration for children.
As needs continue to grow throughout Imperial County and the Salton Sea region, Rostros y Corazón continues expanding programs designed to strengthen families and improve access to services.
