Desert Shores Soccer Park Phase II Opens with Community Celebration

Share

Community leaders celebrate new park for Desert Shores families.

Community members gathered for the opening of Desert Shores Soccer Park Phase II, a new recreational space for children and families in the Salton Sea region. Representatives from Borrego Springs attended as part of an ongoing regional collaboration.

The ceremony was hosted by the Salton Community Services District with support from the Imperial County Air Pollution Control District and Imperial County. Speakers included Imperial County Supervisor Ryan Kelley, Salton Community Services District General Manager Emmanuel Ramos, community representatives and county officials.

Before the program began, Graciela Mendivil Ramos of Rostros y Corazón spoke with Kelley about transportation needs and physical education clothing for local children. Kelley listened and offered support.

The ceremony focused on the importance of youth recreation, community investment and partnerships among residents, nonprofits and public agencies.

“This ribbon cutting is about much more than opening a beautiful green space,” Ramos said. “It represents hope. It represents investment. It represents a belief that every family, every child and every resident deserves a healthy, welcoming place where they can gather, play and build everlasting memories.”

The event included the official ribbon cutting, youth soccer players displaying championship trophies, activities for children and a community gathering.

The Rev. Dave Madsen of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Borrego Springs attended at Graciela’s invitation to show support for the event and local families.

The opening of Desert Shores Soccer Park Phase II marks a new investment in youth recreation, healthier neighborhoods and a shared gathering place for the Desert Shores community.

The original caption reads: SIESTA — One can get pretty hot and tired, looking at the wildflowers in Borrego Valley. Christmas Circle, with its inviting fountain, trees and green grass, is a nice place to take a break. This is the way it has been during the last few weekends. The photograph captures a quiet moment in Borrego Springs history, preserving the way visitors experienced Christmas Circle nearly 60 years ago.
