The Borrego Springs Youth and Seniors Center, Inc. has announced that the Borrego Open Golf Tournament raised $7,000 this year to benefit the Borrego Springs Children's Center.

Tournament leader Steve Winchell shared the history of the event:

"Back in 1967, four friends visiting Borrego Springs went out to play a casual round of golf. Over the years, that event evolved into an organized, two-day tournament with food, drink, a raffle, and most proudly, an annual gift to the Borrego Springs community.
This annual event has facilitated decades of laughs, memories, and a fair share of Borrego Open folklore."

Winchell noted that over the past two decades,

"Our little tournament has raised and donated over $80,000 for the direct benefit of the Borrego Springs Children's Center."

The Borrego Open is currently hosted by The RoadRunner Club and The Springs RV and Golf Resort. Tournament co-chair Randy Winchell expressed his appreciation:

"Thank you for the support you and the staff at the RoadRunner Club and The Springs have shown us all. You guys are the best!"
He also added, "It would be impossible to leave out Teresa West... she's a saint!"

Reflecting on the tournament’s true purpose, Steve Winchell said,

"This annual April trip to Borrego Springs is centered around golf, but looking back on the decades, the founding four had it right from the very beginning. It’s not about the golf... it never was and it never will be. Golf is just our reason for gathering. It’s always been about the friendships, the memories, and using our good-natured fun to do some good in the world."

The Borrego Springs Youth and Seniors Center, Inc. provides vital services to the community, operating both the Senior Center and the Children’s Center. They are recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and donations to support their work are fully tax deductible.
