Volunteers Needed to Help Borrego Kids Learn to Read

Share

Our Kids Need Your Help!

Borrego Springs Elementary is seeking community members to support early readers and strengthen literacy skills among local students.

Currently, only 31% of Borrego Springs students are meeting grade-level reading standards. The school is working to close that gap and is inviting volunteers to be part of the solution.

How Volunteers Can Help

Volunteers will work with small groups of three to four students in grades K–5 during school hours. Support includes helping students with letter identification, high-frequency words, and guided reading practice.

A commitment of one to two days per week is requested.

Who Should Consider Volunteering

Retired teachers, educators, and community members who enjoy reading with children are encouraged to apply. No prior classroom experience is required. Training and materials are provided by the school.

Volunteer Requirements

To participate, volunteers must:

  • Complete a volunteer form
  • Provide a copy of identification
  • Undergo a background check at no cost

Community involvement can make a measurable difference in student success. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Borrego Springs Unified School District at (760) 767-5335.
