CRC Open House: Two Years of Service in Borrego Springs

The Borrego Springs Community Resource Center celebrated two years of service with an open house that welcomed more than 150 business owners, community leaders, residents, and visitors. The event highlighted the programs that support Borrego Springs throughout the year, including food access, transportation assistance, classes, workshops, and community support services.

Guests learned about the CRC’s ongoing impact:

  • 300+ families served weekly through the Food Bank
  • 600 rides reimbursed annually for medical and essential trips
  • 60+ free classes and workshops offered each year

The evening featured a performance by Las Flores Del Desierto Ballet Folklórico, catering by Michele Rivera and her team from The Arches at Borrego Springs Resort, and a livestream by Ram Radio’s Mike Rue. Volunteers supported the event, and the S-Interact students — jointly supported by Rotary and Soroptimist — greeted guests with Miss Borrego and the princesses. Board members and CRC supporters assisted with refreshments.

CRC Director Martha Deichler introduced her board, volunteers, and employee Silvia Arambula, who oversees day-to-day operations to keep the CRC running smoothly.

A Celebration That Inspired Generosity

The event was created as a “friend-raiser”—a celebration of two successful years and a thank-you to the donors and partners who sustain the CRC. Donation jars were placed out during the evening, along with a “donations are raining down” chart showing progress toward the CRC’s $150,000 annual goal.

Since the annual campaign began in September, the CRC had $84,000 raised or pledged.

During the event, an anonymous donor offered a $5,000 match, which encouraged additional giving. Guests contributed $5,300 in new donations and pledges that evening. Combined with the match, the CRC added $10,300 to its annual total, bringing the “rain gauge” to approximately $94,000.

Borrego Valley Community Radio at the CRC

The open house also highlighted that Borrego Valley Community Radio is now operating inside the CRC. Community members are welcome to stop in, see the setup, record onsite, and talk directly with founder Mike Rue.
