Looking for a delightful way to spend your lunch hour in Borrego Springs?


The popular BYOB (Bring Your Own Bowl) lunchtime concert series at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church offers a perfect blend of music, community, and delicious homemade soups. This event is open to everyone and has become a beloved tradition in the community.


What to Expect at BYOB


The idea behind BYOB is simple: bring your own bowl and enjoy a delicious lunch while listening to live music. It’s a chance to experience fellowship, connect with others, and support local musicians. Each concert features a variety of musical performances and a selection of hearty soups made by people who truly know how to make soup – local businesses, home chefs, and community members sharing their cherished family recipes.


BYOB isn’t just a meal – it’s an experience. Guests gather to share stories, meet new friends, and reconnect with familiar faces, all while enjoying soups made with love and tradition.


Live Music and Great Entertainment


Here’s what’s on the lineup:


  • February 19: Syrinx Duo – Classical French piano pieces for four hands
  • February 26: Flotilla of Flutes – Flute ensemble featuring Jennie, Jinny, Elaine, and Debbie
  • March 5: Sentimental Journeys – A nostalgic performance by Scott & Jeff
  • March 12: Steve Hunter – “She Loves You Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!” - Jazz and N’awlins versions of Beatles music
  • March 19: SoulAire – Eclectic pop, gypsy, and original tunes with violin and piano by Beth & Bruce
  • March 26: Full Circle – An eclectic mix of music with Vicki & Steve

How to Join in


There’s no need to RSVP. Just show up with your favorite bowl, ready to enjoy a cozy meal and some fantastic music. Everyone is welcome, whether you're a longtime resident or a visitor passing through.

Tip: Bring an extra bowl for a friend!

Every spring, the calendar of the Christian churches comes round to the Forty Days of Lent, a time of self examination and reflection, very much like the season of Ramadan in Islam. These weeks culminate in Holy Weeks, the time from Palm Sunday, this year April 13, till Easter Sunday, April 20. Easter, coming from an Old English word for spring, is the celebration of Jesus being raised from death. But the Resurrection is preceded by several other special days. Called Maundy Thursday from the Latin mandatum or commandment, Thursday in Holy Week commemorates the last supper Jesus had with his disciples. At this meal he gave them bread and wine to share, this becoming the central sacrament of the church, holy communion or the Eucharist. Thursday also recalls Jesus' washing the feet of his friends as an act of love, a commandment he urged them to continue--their love for each other and all the world. Good Friday seems wrongly named for it is the day of Jesus' death on the cross. Yet this self giving is for Christians the ultimate sign of God's love for all humankind and the world. On the next day, Holy Saturday, towards evening, a vigil service of readings, the proclamation of the resurrection and holy communion begin the Easter celebration. Finally on Easter Sunday services of song, prayer, readings and communion feast the rising of the Lord from death, a promise to all of new life with God and each other forever.
