More than 400 people served through a coordinated community effort at the CRC
A large-scale produce distribution at the Borrego Springs Community Resource Center (CRC) brought fresh food to more than 400 people in a single day, reflecting a strong and coordinated community effort.
Volunteers began work at 6 a.m., continuing through the day into early evening to manage the steady flow of residents. As turnout grew, organizers expanded outreach by calling community members directly to ensure the produce was shared widely and efficiently.
Attendees received a variety of fresh items, including strawberries, bok choy, garlic, basil, cucumbers, cabbage, lettuce, and peppers. Many also picked up additional boxes for neighbors, friends, and animals at home.
While most of the 33,000 pounds of produce was distributed that day, a portion was set aside for the following Tuesday’s food bank distribution, extending the impact of the effort.
The event ran smoothly from start to finish, thanks to dedicated CRC volunteers. Cristian Hernandez, who manages the food bank, played a key role in coordinating outreach and ensuring that people took what they needed while keeping the distribution organized.
The day highlighted both the need and the strength of the Borrego Springs community, with volunteers and residents working together to make sure fresh food reached as many households as possible.
