About Doug MacLeod
Doug MacLeod’s artistry has been shaped by a lifetime of personal trials and mentorship from blues masters. As a youth, he overcame abuse and a crippling stutter by turning to music. Once he picked up a guitar and began singing, he found his voice.
Over more than four decades, Doug has released 29 studio albums, live recordings, compilations, instructional DVDs, and a live performance DVD. His career has included sideman gigs with George “Harmonica” Smith, Big Joe Turner, Pee Wee Crayton, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, Lowell Fulson, and Big Mama Thornton.
Beyond performing, Doug has shared his love of the blues through radio, writing, and film. He hosted the Los Angeles radio show Nothin’ But the Blues, contributed a long-running column called “Doug’s Back Porch” to Blues Revue Magazine, and appeared in the documentary Resonate: A Guitar Story.
At the heart of Doug’s music is an authenticity learned from his mentors. As his teacher Ernest Banks once told him: “Never play a note you don’t believe” and “Never write or sing about what you don’t know.” These lessons remain the foundation of every performance Doug brings to the stage.
