Borrego Springs, CA – August 25, 2025 – Borrego Community Builders, in partnership with Skyline Construction, hosted a Subcontractor Meet-and-Greet on July 31 in Borrego Springs to connect local tradespeople with a landmark hospitality project. Known as the “Rams Hill Golf Cottages,” this construction project is one of several projects currently underway in the Borrego Springs community of just over 3,000 residents in San Diego County, surrounded by Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

The Meet-and-Greet gathering brought together electricians, plumbers, painters, construction crews, and other skilled trades from Borrego Springs and neighboring desert communities, providing a direct link to upcoming bid opportunities for the Rams Hill Golf Cottages project.

The Cottages project consists of four new Spanish Revival-style cottages, each approximately 3,600 square feet, designed to serve as short-term rental accommodations for golf guests. Each cottage will feature four guest suites flanking a central shared living and kitchenette area, accented with clay tile roofs, arched openings, plaster exteriors and warm wood detailing reflecting the desert character.

At the Meet-and-Greet, held at Rams Hill to introduce the Borrego Community Builders vision, design, and construction plan, Rodney Bruce, Rams Hill’s Director of Development and Construction, said, “Rams Hill has always been committed to hiring local talent, and that includes subcontractors such as electricians, plumbers, painters, and other trades. We’re looking for partners who take pride in their work, care about the community, and can help us deliver something special for Borrego Springs.”

Jessica Torres, Project Manager with Skyline Construction, joined Bruce in sharing the Cottages construction schedule, expected to begin fall 2025 and be completed by spring 2026.

Torres and Bruce answered questions and encouraged attendees to exchange business cards and learn how their craft could contribute to bringing the project’s vision to life.

In addition to the cottages, Borrego Community Builders has begun construction for sustainable, affordable housing for the local workforce—ensuring that growth at Rams Hill benefits the entire community.

“This project is more than construction,” Bruce added. “It’s an investment in our town, our people, and our future.”

Bruce not only leads Borrego Community Builders but is also part of the Borrego Springs Microgrid Collaborative (BSMC) that submitted a grant application for funding through San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) under the California Microgrid Incentive Program (MIP) for a community microgrid that enhances energy reliability, resilience, and sustainability for Borrego Springs. If SDG&E awards the MIP Grant, the new microgrid will serve as a model for community-led energy resilience and reliability in this high-risk community.

With the Attainable/Workforce Housing project already underway and now the Golf Cottages preparing for construction, each important milestone step leads to a more sustainable future for the Borrego Springs community.

When the future of the Community Concert Association was uncertain, Bill Wright inspired a path forward through growth, volunteers and community support. As the Borrego Springs Community Concert Association announces its new season, it is worth remembering the people who helped keep this tradition alive. Founded in 1975, the all-volunteer nonprofit brings high-quality, eclectic music to Borrego Springs. Each season includes five public concerts and four free educational concerts for local students. Children are bused to the Borrego Springs Performing Arts Center to experience professional live music, and musicians also visit local schools for interactive programs that introduce students to music up close. That tradition almost came to an end. When the Association had fallen on hard times (2015) and was preparing to disband, Bill Wright stepped forward. By reaching out to his many business associates, Bill raised enough money to help save the organization and keep professional musicians coming to the Borrego stage. Among his written correspondence with the board, Bill Wright repeatedly advocated for “growth, not reduction,” encouraged members to “recruit new volunteers” and “develop sponsorship opportunities,” and closed one letter with a promise that captured his commitment: “We will do more than our share to keep the great music series going.”
