Borrego Art Institute Celebrates Summer Solstice and New Leadership

The Borrego Art Institute welcomed artists, supporters, and community members for a well-attended Summer Solstice gathering that combined art, food, conversation, and community spirit.

Held at the Institute's gallery, the event offered an opportunity for attendees to connect, enjoy the current exhibits, and celebrate the organization's ongoing role in Borrego Springs' cultural life.

The evening also marked an important leadership transition. Outgoing Board President Robert Wright announced that he is stepping down from the position after 8 years of service to the organization. Wright reflected on the Institute's continued commitment to education, noting that despite changing trends, Borrego Art Institute has remained focused on its mission of supporting arts education and creative opportunities for the community. He expressed pride in the organization's growth, including the recent addition of a permanent classroom space at Studio West in The Mall.

Wright will continue serving on the board and volunteering with the organization, while Diane Johnson assumes the role of Board President. Johnson emphasized the importance of the Institute's mission to promote the arts through creativity, lifelong learning, and community engagement. She noted that gatherings like the Summer Solstice celebration help bring people together and strengthen connections within the community.

For more than two decades, the Borrego Art Institute has offered exhibitions, classes, workshops, and educational programs for residents and visitors. The organization continues to expand opportunities for artists of all ages while serving as a gathering place for creativity in Borrego Springs.
