Open Letter to Owner of Borrego Sun

Read our open letter to Patrick Meehan Jr., owner of Borrego Sun, discussing innovative strategies for bridging the gap between traditional newspaper operations and the digital age, fostering community engagement in Borrego Springs.

A Note About the Borrego Sun’s Digital Future

Dear Borrego Sun,

As a Borrego Springs resident and reader, I want to first say how much I appreciate the role the Borrego Sun has played in our community. Local news matters here. The paper helps tell the stories, share the events, and document the issues that shape Borrego Springs.

At the same time, I believe there is a real opportunity to strengthen the paper’s digital presence. More people now look online first for updates, local information, events, and community news. A stronger website, more active social media, and more ways for residents to share stories could help the Borrego Sun reach more readers and stay connected with both locals and visitors.

Some ideas could include more community-submitted stories, local history features, photo projects, short videos, event updates, and better search visibility online. These changes would not replace the paper’s legacy — they would help carry it forward.

I share this with respect for the Borrego Sun and its importance to Borrego Springs. I would be glad to help with ideas, digital marketing, website updates, or community engagement in any way that is useful.

Sincerely,
A Borrego Springs Local
