Celebrating KRAM 90.5 FM and the Local Media Connecting Borrego Springs

August 20 is National Radio Day, recognizing radio’s long history of informing, entertaining and connecting communities.

That tradition has a new chapter in Borrego Springs. KRAM 90.5 FM provides public radio service throughout the Borrego Valley, broadcasting KPBS and NPR programming from its station at 730 Christmas Circle.

KPBS-FM is San Diego’s public radio station, broadcasting on 89.5 FM in San Diego, 97.7 FM in Calexico and 90.5 FM as KRAM in Borrego Springs.

For a geographically isolated desert community, reliable radio provides an important connection to regional news, public affairs, educational programming and national reporting.

KRAM is operated by the nonprofit Ram Media Foundation. Founder Gabriel Wisdom brings decades of broadcasting experience to the project. His radio career began at San Diego’s KPRI-FM in the late 1960s and later included KGB-FM and legendary Los Angeles station KMET-FM. His early radio experiences also helped filmmaker Cameron Crowe recreate the KPRI studio for Almost Famous. Learn More.

Today, that broadcasting history continues in Borrego Springs, where residents and visitors can simply tune their radios to 90.5 FM.
