The Drone Zone Sanctuary, a 40-acre haven in Borrego Springs, officially opened its doors in November, marking a significant chapter in the town’s embrace of emerging technology.

More than just a flying field, the Drone Zone Sanctuary envisions itself as a vibrant community hub. Owner Eric Hanscom emphasizes, “This goes beyond being just a place to fly drones. It is a space where passion meets innovation, fostering a community where enthusiasts can learn, create, and share their love for drone technology.”

Safety and Inclusivity Take Center Stage

The sanctuary prioritizes safety and comfort for all, regardless of experience level. From novice pilots to seasoned professionals, the vast training grounds offer ample space to hone skills and explore the capabilities of drones. The emphasis on a harassment-free environment ensures everyone feels welcome and empowered to explore their aerial ambitions.

The grand opening event itself served as a testament to the inclusive and diverse nature of the drone community. Members of Women and Drones, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women in the drone industry, were present, showcasing the growing presence of female pilots in the field.

Beyond the Playground: A Catalyst for Innovation

The Drone Zone Sanctuary aspires to be more than just a recreational haven. Hanscom envisions a future where the space fosters collaboration and innovation, attracting entrepreneurs, researchers, and businesses to Borrego Springs.

The desert landscape, with its vast open spaces and minimal air traffic, presents an ideal testing ground for cutting-edge drone technology. Imagine a future where the sanctuary hosts drone-based agricultural research, aerial cinematography workshops, or even drone racing competitions.

A Boon for Borrego Springs

The Drone Zone Sanctuary’s arrival is bound to generate excitement in Borrego Springs. Local businesses will benefit from increased tourism and economic growth as drone enthusiasts flock to the area. The influx of talent and expertise could also revitalize the town’s tech scene, attracting startups and investors interested in the burgeoning drone industry.

The Future Takes Flight

The Drone Zone Sanctuary is a beacon of hope for Borrego Springs, demonstrating the town’s willingness to embrace change and capitalize on emerging technologies. As Eric Hanscom aptly puts it, “This is just the beginning. We have big plans for the future, and we are excited to see how the Drone Zone Sanctuary will evolve and contribute to the growth of Borrego Springs and the drone community as a whole.
