Weekly Groceries and Community Support at CRC

Every Tuesday, the Borrego Springs Community Resource Center (CRC) at 587 Palm Canyon Dr #125 serves as a vital support hub for Borrego Springs residents. From 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM, volunteers distribute free groceries—no ID, income check, or proof required. Early in the day, local volunteers arrive to set up tables and prepare the site, waiting for the delivery truck from Feeding San Diego to arrive. Once it does, they move quickly to unload, organize, and begin serving the community.

Powered by Volunteers and Community Spirit

The CRC Food Bank is entirely volunteer-run, with individuals from across Borrego Springs contributing their time and energy each week. Some are retirees, others seasonal workers or residents between jobs. Together, they create a welcoming, respectful space for everyone who walks through the door. The environment is calm, positive, and focused on support—not judgment.

Helping During Borrego’s Off-Season

Borrego Springs is a seasonal economy, and summer months or job gaps can put added pressure on local families. The CRC food bank helps fill that gap, providing access to healthy, reliable groceries when budgets are stretched thin. More than 285 families are served each week, and that number continues to grow.

Expanded Facilities Through Local Support

Recent facility upgrades were made possible thanks to generous local support. A $39,000 Neighborhood Revitalization Grant from San Diego County is funding new flooring, a hot-water sink, and storage cabinets to improve safety and functionality. A $6,750 grant from the Borrego Valley Endowment Fund (BVEF) allowed CRC to purchase a large reach-in refrigerator, expanding its ability to safely store perishable items.

These are just a few of the many donations CRC has received. Continued community giving—from individuals, businesses, and foundations—helps sustain and grow services throughout the year.

Health and Human Services On-Site

On the first Tuesday of every month, San Diego County Health and Human Services is also available at CRC from 11:15 AM to 2:15 PM. Community members can get in-person help applying for CalFresh, CalWORKs, and Medi-Cal—offering longer-term assistance alongside weekly groceries.

More Than Food

The CRC continues to respond to community feedback by offering additional services throughout the year—resource events, clinics, and workshops. All events and updates are posted on the CRC’s online calendar.

BSCCA Brings Music to Community and Students The Marcia Forman Band performed a free community concert on Sunday, April 12, at the Borrego Springs Library, followed by an interactive concert for local students on Monday morning. The Sunday performance provided open access to live music for the community, while the Monday program brought musicians directly into a school setting, where students experienced a more hands-on and educational presentation. Student concerts are a core part of what the Borrego Springs Community Concert Association (BSCCA) provides each season. In addition to public performances, the organization coordinates programs that introduce students to live music, instruments, and different styles in a structured environment. Founded in 1975, BSCCA is an all-volunteer nonprofit that produces concerts for the community while also supporting music education for local youth. The elementary school concert reflected that mission in action, connecting Borrego Springs students with professional musicians and live performance. Elizabeth Renner and Jinny Perrin, both retired music teachers and BSCCA board members, help guide the student programs by bringing hands-on music education and experience directly to local students. The weekend highlighted both sides of BSCCA’s work: expanding access to live music locally and creating meaningful exposure to the arts for the next generation.
